报告人简介：王强，加拿大卡尔顿大学（Carleton University）数学与统计学院教授、博导。2000年获加拿大纽芬兰纪念大学（Memorial University of Newfoundland）数学博士学位， 2002年5月到加拿大卡尔顿大学数学与统计学院工作，2010年在清华大学高等研究所做访问学者，2017年在中科院信工所访问。主要从事有限域及其应用、流密码、离散数学、代数及数论方面的研究。多次承担加拿大自然科学与工程技术研究理事会资助项目，主要包括Individual Discovery grant, NSERC of Canada，NSERC Engage grant等。在《IEEE Transactions on Information Theory》、《Finite Fields and Their Applications》、《Discrete Applied Mathematics》、《Designs Codes and Cryptography》等国际著名期刊发表学术论文70余篇；应邀为《IEEE Transaction on Information Theory》、《Finite Fields and Their Applications》、《Designs Codes and Cryptography》、《Discrete Mathematics》、《Journal of Number Theory》等20多种国际学术期刊审稿；组织TIMC Workshop on Functions and Geometries over Finite Fields、Fields Workshop on “Algebraic Monoids, Group Embeddings and Algebraic Combinatorics”、 Carleton Finite Fields Workshop、SETA等多个著名国际会议。

报告摘要：The index of a polynomial over finite fields is a new parameter initially introduced to study permutation polynomials. In this talk we will survey some recent progress on other problems such as bounding character sums and value set sizes.
